E-Reha-Buggy

Extra-stable rehabilitation stroller for older children and adults with disabilities

Type of project: Prototype

Disability concerned: Motor disability, Multiple disabilities, Down syndrome, Cerebral palsy, ADHD

Topics: Travel, Leisure

Status: In progress

The aim is to create an alternative to wheelchairs by manufacturing a prototype electric rehabilitation buggy with a load capacity of around 85 kg.

There are very few rehabilitation buggies on the market with a load capacity of over 50 kg. Young people and adults with motor disabilities (e.g. ataxic cerebral palsy) find it very difficult to find suitable transport equipment. What’s more, most of them are not motorised, which is absolutely essential when the person being transported weighs more than 50 kg, otherwise the carer is quickly overwhelmed.

The only alternatives are motorised wheelchairs, which is generally difficult for disabled people and their families to accept. They think it looks “too disabled”. What’s more, a wheelchair is much more bulky to transport (car, train, plane) than a folding rehabilitation pushchair, and as light as possible, which also improves freedom of movement.

My aim is to create an alternative to the wheelchair for these people by making a prototype electric rehabilitation buggy with a load capacity of around 85 kg from 2 existing buggy products on the market.

A stroller.
