Raising awareness among health professionals of the experience and communication needs of deaf and hard of hearing patients in care

Deaf and hard of hearing people face many difficulties in communicating with carers and increase their barriers to care. Raising awareness among carers of the experiences and communication needs of these populations is a possible lever to reduce these difficulties and improve access to care.

In order to improve access to health care for deaf and hard of hearing people, Dr. Véronique Grazioli at Unisanté and Tanya Sebai, Nurse at the University Hospitals of Geneva have conducted participatory research to develop an intervention that aligns with this objective. They will present the objectives and method of the project developed to raise awareness among health professionals.

The 2023 conference cycle will be a partnership between the FRH and the Neurodev network. A project supported by the Innovation Booster: Crossing the sound barrier – A digital information and coaching platform to promote employment beyond hearing impairment will be presented by Hadja a Marca-Kaba, Project Manager and profoundly deaf person, Martine Kaba-Lopez, LPC coder-interpreter, Robert Frund and Stéphane Rullac, Professors, HETSL.

This event is co-organised in partnership with the Neurodev network. It is co-moderated by members of the Neurodev Network in collaboration with Andrea Lutz, Project Manager in Health Promotion and Prevention at Unisanté and Benjamin Nanchen, Scientific Assistant at the HES-SO Valais and Head of the Innovation Booster Technology & Special Needs Programme of the FRH.

 

Translation into LSF and coding in LPC are planned.
