TiltDrive

Electric wheelchair – TiltDrive Mobility Chair

Phase 2

Type of project: Prototype

Disabilities concerned: Motor disability

Topics: Autonomy, Mobility and travel

Statut : In progress

We are developing a prototype electric wheelchair with four independent arms, the aim of which is to compensate for acceleration, braking and cornering forces, for a smoother, more pleasant ride.

We are developing a prototype electric wheelchair with four independent arms, the aim of which is to compensate for acceleration, braking and cornering forces, for a smoother, more pleasant ride. These independent arms would also offer a number of other advantages, including obstacle clearance and stair climbing.

Based on initial mechanical concept ideas developed previously in our laboratory,

our prototype will benefit from the experience acquired since the start of our exploratory research. By taking into account the existing literature on this type of product, we can gain a better understanding of the market and existing prototypes. Our exploratory study has also enabled us to gather feedback from a large number of users, in order to guide the development of this prototype, with the priority of only incorporating improvements that have a real impact on their quality of life.

Finally, the preparation of our prototyping file has enabled us to find an implementation partner interested in developing the project.

Thanks to this new experience, we will be able to discuss and choose the best components to use, as well as the options to be developed as a priority. We will then be able to design 3D drawings and detailed plans of the parts to be manufactured. Ideally, we would like to have a 3D design with plans for the parts to be produced at the end of this project.
