Type of project: Exploratory research

Disabilities concerned: Mental disability, Visual disability

Topics: Digital accessibility, Participation in cultural life, sports and leisure activities

Statut : In progress

Making the easy-to-read content of the multilingual journal Bureaucracy Studies digitally accessible.

The Journal of Bureaucracy Studies talks about art and other things in life in no fewer than four simplified languages: French ‘facile à lire et à comprendre’, German ‘Leichte Sprache’, English ‘easy-to-read’ and, since 2024, Italian ‘Lingua facile’.

The typography was tailor-made to reflect the latest microtypographic research and to improve accessibility for people with dyslexia and/or other reading difficulties (Wehrspann, 2024). From issue 1 to issue 2, the contrast of printed colours was increased following informal feedback from visually impaired people.

However, there is still a lack of online access to the contents of the Journal of Bureaucracy Studies, for example to guarantee access using screen readers. The aim of this research is therefore to make the Journal’s content accessible.
