In traditional walking aids such as crutches and walking sticks, the length is adjusted so that the handle is at the right height when the user is standing. However, when the user is sitting down and wants to stand up (transfer process), the handle is much too high. The user is then forced to adopt a very unfavourable arm position, with shoulders turned sharply inwards, in order to lean on it, and needs much more strength and mobility in the arms and shoulders.<\/span><\/p>\n[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_3″ _builder_version=”4.17.0″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.17.0″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]\n

In contrast, the \u2018VariWalk\u2019 walking aid we are developing should not only support the user during walking, but also make it easier for them to stand up.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is made possible by an integrated mechanism that allows the walking aid to be moved in and out of position using a button on the handle.<\/span><\/p>\n[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_3″ _builder_version=”4.17.0″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.17.0″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]\n

So, before standing up, the user can adjust the handle to an ergonomic and comfortable height for the ideal support. After standing up, or while standing up, the walking aid deploys again at the touch of a button, returning to its normal walking length.
